Loehmann’s Fashion Funds Hope Event on September 24th, 2009

According to the National Cancer Institute, ovarian cancer is the most deadly form of gynecologic cancer and over 22,000 new cases will be reported in 2009.  September is Ovarian Cancer month and Loehmann’s is hosting a national charity event to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund on Thursday, September 24th.  Although there has been progress in finding more effective treatments-much remains to be done; and you can make your contribution to combating this tragic ailment at our Ovarian Cancer Research Fund event.

Loehmann’s Support for Ovarian Cancer Month

Thursday, September 24th, Loehmann’s will give shoppers, who donate $5 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, a 15% discount on their purchase.  The entire $5 as well as 5% of the proceeds from participating shoppers will be given straight to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, which will go a long way in providing resources for the fight against ovarian cancer.  With each article of clothing you purchase during this Ovarian Cancer Research fund event at Loehmann’s comes a step of progress in finding a cure for ovarian cancer.

So join us on September 24th at Loehmann’s Ovarian Cancer Research Fund event to shop, donate, and save money & lives.  You can walk away with your purchase knowing that someone is going to be helped because of your thoughtfulness and generosity.  One day of shopping can mean a lifetime of difference for someone afflicted with ovarian cancer.

Loehmann’s Helps Us Define the Semantics of Style

A special message from: Elizabeth Howard, Chief Executive Officer; The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund

At the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund we salute Loehmann’s for all they are doing through their Fashion Funds Hope day to make a difference in the lives of  women battling ovarian cancers and for their friends and colleagues.  Loehmann’s has provided us with the opportunity to volunteer, to meet other women, to show off our own style, to save money and to make a real difference, while indulging our own love of style.

As I have traveled across the globe, to remote villages in Southeast Asia and across Africa, I have met stunningly beautiful women:  women who live on very little and yet are clothed in shawls and wraps they have created from fabrics dyed with vibrant colors and patterned with intricate designs.  For women there is a semantic of dress.  We define our public image through our clothes. We are drawn to a color, the turn of a pleat, the detail on an inside lining, a silhouette that is created through the design of the garment, a style that graciously covers our shape.

Loehmann’s offers us the opportunity to buy our favorite designer clothes, to have an opportunity to find unique pieces of clothing that we can wear and love – and that we can afford.  In one store we can find the beautiful styles that will help define our public image.

I love beautiful clothes and I cannot wait until Thursday, March 26 to spend time visiting a number of Loehmann’s, in Connecticut and in New York – within the range of where I live.  At the same time I salute the entire Loehmann’s team on behalf of all of us at the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Loehmann’s Fashion Funds Hope Event Thursday, March 26th

Shop at Loehmann’s to Help Bring Happy Endings to Ovarian Cancer Patient Stories

If you have heard any personal survivor stories from women with ovarian cancer, then you know what ovarian cancer looks like. No matter how you dress it up, ovarian cancer is never pretty. As the most serious gynecological cancer, and the fifth leading cause of cancer death overall, ovarian cancer is a quiet disease for which there is no simple screening test or tool, so patients are usually diagnosed in advanced stages when only 45% survive longer than five years.

At Loehmann’s, we don’t find those statistics regarding life expectancy for ovarian cancer to be acceptable. Which is why….

Loehmann’s will offer an additional 15% off a purchase to any customer who donates just five dollars to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).

On Thursday, March 26th, fashion-savvy, budget-minded shoppers can support cancer research while receiving special savings on leading designer apparel for one day only, at any of the sixty-three Loehmann’s stores across the country. Early detection raises the five-year survival rate to 92%.

In addition, Loehmann’s will make a contribution to OCRF of 5% of total purchases by donors. So the more you shop, the more you spend, the more you give!

Loehmann’s customers will be able to pick up information about ovarian cancer, from risk factors and symptoms at tables set up inside the stores that day. Not only will your shopping support help others fighting this disease, but the knowledge of what to look for and what ovarian cancer symptoms look like can benefit either yourself or someone you care about. Chances are that you know someone or will know someone in your life that will need this help.

“Every contribution from this special in-store event delivers hope,”

says Elizabeth Howard, chief executive officer, OCRF. “We are thrilled Loehmann’s is helping us reach out to educate women and their families across the country. By improving detection, treatment and prevention, we make a real difference together.”

We want to hear more survivor stories of women with ovarian cancer and we know you do too. Remember to shop at Loehmann’s on Thursday, March 26th. When Fashion Funds Hope, we all can benefit.
