“Besides being larger, the new store is more airy than other discount stores and boasts boutiquey touches. The dressing rooms – Loehmann’s has long been famous – and dreaded – for its “bullpen” style dressing rooms where women try on clothes communally – are more traditional with private changing cubicles, arty decor, colorful lounges and flattering lighting along with plenty of mirrors.
The sales floor is bright with wide aisles that cross at intersections directing shoppers to each department. The shoe, accessory and purse departments – stocked with high-end designers that rival the neighboring Nordstrom Rack — take up about the same percentage of space as its other stores, but more of that space (especially shoes) is devoted to designer names, Politzer said.”
