04.7.2008 Shopper’s Diary: What can be found at Loehmann’s?

All over the internet, there are stories and snippets of the excellent finds and buys that people have found at their local Loehmann’s.  While part of the discount shopper’s challenge of finding  that great purchase, in the correct size, in the perfect color might intimidate some, there are clearly legions of fashionista’s who proudly boast of their shopping skills:

I quickly found a winter coat that I liked (Kenneth Cole, for half the original price). I also couldn’t resist buying a couple of CK dress shirts (also half price). On top of that, there was a 20% discount on all outerwear the day I was there, and I got an extra 10% discount by getting their club card. So: I ended up paying around $130 for one coat and two shirts, and saved close to $250! Talk of a bargain!

Tahari peep toe shoes ($49.99!!) Cashmere Scarf for Hubby ($48.99)
True religion jeans for our daughter ($59.99)
Double Breasted Cream Boutique coat for our daughter (original price tag still attached for $205) we paid $39.99

My first experience at the State street store was amazing, scooping up two dressy dresses and a pair of heels for $130.  A month ago I scored an adorable dress for $39 and last week I restocked my ‘under things’ drawer for $50.
Sweet!

I have resisted this store since it opened. Even when I saw women walking down the street with their huge shopping bags from there, I managed not to fall victim.
But when faced with a cashmere sweater that is retailed at $92, but on clearance at $8.97?
Correction: 50% off of $8.97??
Oh. my. word.
And don’t get me started on the silk skirt I bought.

Whereas I would normally spend hours trying to find something reasonable and pretty, here within 30 minutes I found two fabulous dresses- one a Laundry by Shelli Segal for about $120, the other a gorgeous Calvin Klein for about $80! (This second dress actually had the staff in the dressing room raving and parading me around!).

I drove down to Loehmann’s on Sunday.  Before I knew it, my arms were filled with all sorts of goodies:  Diesel jeans for $29.99 a pop (regularly $160-180 per pair), cute tops for $25-35 (regularly $50-$95), and some comfy slip on converse tennies for 1/2 off too!  And, to put the icing on the cake of great deals, for spending just over $200, I received 200 “points” to use next month for 20% off my next purchase.  How awesome is that?!

The Vera Wang gown marked all the way down to $34 is my biggest catch yet.

I love Loehmann’s as much as anyone else, but today I bought two pairs of Earl Jeans (@ $10.50 each, after a 20% Loehmann’s card discount) for less than I’d spend on a pair of jeans at Old Navy ($22.50).

When one reads quotes such as these, it is hard not to imagine the huge satisfied smiles on these shopper’s faces. You can hear the excitement in what they write. You can imagine them showing off their wonderful purchases, jumping up and down & parading about in their finds. That’s the joy that Loehmann’s brings.

The designer bag is, hands down, the most definitive accessory to personalize your style.  There comes the question though of how much will you be willing to pay for the next “must-have” bag?

If you’re like us, the four digit price tag of these beauties is more likely to scare you off.  Fortunately, Loehmann’s summer collection includes designer handbags at a fraction of the price.  Whether it is a clutch, a hobo, a messenger or a wristlet, the search for the most chic summer handbag should definitely start at Loehmann’s.

Loehmann’s designer handbag collection presents decorative spring-into-summer purses that truly express the spirit of the season.  I mean, picture this - a printed or embroidered tote with a red-hot floral theme and a combination of terrycloth with silk ribbon ties.  Oh, what a fabulous way to brighten up your wardrobe!
